What is ethical tourism?

Ethical tourism is the attempt to balance the impact the local environment, people, and culture sustain from tourism. Many people think all the free activities or free stuff (beaches, hiking, exploring the wilderness, etc) families can do will not contribute to the harm done. This is not true as there always remains a physical impact when people visit these areas.

Impact from tourism can particularly affect children and women, who can end up being exploited and underpaid. This is not to say it happens all the time, but with the effort to travel ethically the impact on communities can be reduced. In the long term this can be a benefit to everyone.
